Capybaras
Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris
Capybaras are covered in coarse brown fur. Their eyes, nostrils and ears are at the top of their head; this allows them to see, smell and hear whilst swimming.
Capybaras are found around rivers and in grasslands, marshes and bogs in northern and eastern South America.
Capybaras can live in pairs, family groups or larger mixed herds. They have up to eight young at a time, these are born covered in fur and can run, swim and dive within hours of birth.
